Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, a historic hotel located between two canals in the heart of the city, has begun a major renovation set for completion by the first quarter of 2027. Led by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, the refurbishment will carefully blend Dutch heritage with refined modern design. Originally a 15th-century convent and later Amsterdam’s City Hall, The Grand will preserve its historic architecture while enhancing guest comfort and elegance. The transformation includes all 175 rooms and suites, featuring interiors inspired by Vermeer’s soft palettes, custom furnishings, and eco-conscious materials. The redesign also introduces a new Bridal Suite and updates key public areas including the lobby, atrium, and the Florista Tea & Cocktail Lounge.
This extensive renovation also reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and artistic heritage. Certified woods, natural textiles, and energy-efficient systems will help reduce the hotel’s environmental impact. The central courtyard is being reimagined as a lush garden filled with native Dutch plants, while hallways will display curated Dutch artworks and antique pieces. Key historic elements, such as The Wedding Chamber designed in 1925 by Chris Lebeau, will be carefully preserved to maintain the building’s cultural legacy. Through this thoughtful redesign, The Grand seeks to offer an experience that honors its storied past while embracing the future of elegant, responsible hospitality.
