In November, The Michelin Guide awarded its first-ever Michelin star to Musaafer, an Indian restaurant in Houston, Texas, marking a significant milestone for the city's culinary scene. Opened in May 2020, Musaafer offers a modern take on regional Indian dishes. The menu, crafted by Executive Chef Mayank Istwal, reflects the flavors and techniques from an extensive journey through India. From saffron-picking in Kashmir to discovering rice brews in Nagaland, the restaurant’s menu features dishes like tuna papad with achar emulsion and nihari birria tacos.
Musaafer, a project by Shammi and Mithu Malik of Spice Route, opened its doors amidst a global pandemic and quickly became a standout in Houston. The restaurant features intricate designs inspired by India’s royal palaces and spice markets. With its innovative menu, modern ambience, and award-winning dishes, Musaafer offers an authentic journey through Indian cuisine.
