Argentina’s Famed Open-Flame Restaurant and Cocktail Bar Arrives in Georgetown

Buenos Aires-born hospitality talents Renato “Tato” Giovannoni and Alex Resnik have launched their acclaimed concepts Florería Atlántico and Brasero Atlántico in Washington, D.C., marking the brands’ U.S. debut. Located in a restored 19th-century firehouse along the C&O Canal in Georgetown, the project pairs an upstairs Argentine grill restaurant with a basement cocktail bar ranked among the World’s 50 Best. The Brasero Atlántico menu highlights prime cuts cooked over a striking open-flame grill, visible from the street, alongside seasonal plates inspired by Argentina’s diverse immigrant heritage. Below, Florería Atlántico offers award-winning cocktails, a seafood-focused menu, and an immersive underwater-themed lounge. “We try to represent the way of eating out in Argentina,” said Giovannoni, noting the open interaction between guests, chefs, and bartenders.

The venue’s design blends historic preservation with Argentine cultural elements, from reclaimed Virginia barn wood to copper bar accents honoring Giovannoni’s grandfather. A flower shop and coffee counter welcome guests before leading them through a hidden entrance to the bar below. The 55-seat restaurant also features a private dining room styled after Argentina’s La Pampa province and a 250-bottle wine list. Reflecting on opening in the same neighborhood he first visited in 1991, Giovannoni said the launch was “a full-circle moment” and a fitting entry into Georgetown’s dining resurgence.
