Prada and UNESCO Launch Ocean Fund to Strengthen Education and Preservation

Prada Group and UNESCO have unveiled the SEA BEYOND Multi-Partner Trust Fund, a five-year initiative aimed at strengthening humanity’s relationship with the ocean. Prada has committed an initial €2 million to the fund, which will finance projects that combine science, education, and culture to promote sustainable ocean stewardship. Areas of focus include introducing ocean literacy into school curricula, creating opportunities for youth engagement, supporting cultural heritage linked to the sea, and ensuring communities have a stronger voice in shaping marine policy. A scientific committee will help guide which projects receive support, ensuring that funding reaches initiatives with long-term impact.

The fund builds on SEA BEYOND, the ocean education program that Prada and UNESCO launched in 2019, which has already reached tens of thousands of students worldwide. By scaling this work, the new platform aims to unite governments, companies, scientists, and educators around shared commitments to ocean preservation. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay emphasized that change begins with education, while Prada’s Lorenzo Bertelli described the initiative as a long-term commitment to embed ocean literacy into global culture and policy. With the first call for proposals due in December 2025, the partnership signals a stronger, coordinated effort to empower the next generation in safeguarding the planet’s most vital ecosystem.
