Nox Mobility Introduces Affordable and Sustainable Night Train Travel Across Europe

Berlin-based startup Nox Mobility has unveiled plans to launch a new network of night trains connecting over a dozen major European cities by 2027, including Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, and Stockholm. Co-founded by Janek Smalla and Thibault Constant, the company aims to address long-standing issues in the sleeper train sector with a modern, comfortable, and cost-efficient travel alternative. Cabins will be offered in three types: Single, Double Loft, and the more luxurious Double Vista, all equipped with two-meter mattresses and thoughtful amenities. Tickets will start at approximately $85 for single cabins and $160 for doubles, with onboard services such as food and beverage, bike storage, and accessibility features included. “With night trains, you just get on, sleep during the trip, and wake up refreshed somewhere new,” said Smalla.

Unlike existing services that often rely on outdated rolling stock, Nox will build new, modular trains and manage its booking system to improve reliability and comfort. Smalla acknowledged the hurdles of navigating Europe’s fragmented rail infrastructure but remains optimistic. “We know that what we’re doing isn’t easy,” he said. “But if we can pull it off, it could unlock a new way to get around Europe.” Nox is currently seeking final design approvals and preparing for a major funding round later this year.
