A growing number of affluent travelers are embracing “med-cations,” wellness-focused retreats that prioritize health diagnostics and therapeutic programs over traditional rest and relaxation. At SHA Mexico in Costa Mujeres, guests undergo rigorous wellness routines that include blood panels, ozone therapy, transcranial stimulation, and customized meals like daily miso soup. “The trend of viewing vacations as investments in health and well-being is gaining momentum,” said Alejandro Bataller, Vice President of SHA Mexico. Visitors like Rick, a Miami Banker recovering from burnout, are turning to science-based therapies to make lasting lifestyle changes. “I needed something more transformative and science-based to really move the needle,” Rick said.
In response to rising demand, several new wellness destinations are in development. The Estate, co-founded by Tony Robbins and Hotelier Sam Nazarian, is set to open four luxury properties in 2026. These will offer personalized preventative programs including full-body MRI scans, genome sequencing, and AI-enabled health diagnostics. “Vacations are no longer just escapes; they’re investments in wellness and longevity,” said Nazarian. SHA is also expanding with a new UAE location, SHA Island Emirates, planned as a wellness sanctuary integrating local cultural elements. “Our goal is to create the sixth blue zone on the planet,” Bataller added.
